There are a range of activities for residents to join in with such as: van rides, picnics, concerts, music, bowls, housie and tai chi.
Plus, there are many warm sunny areas and there is a pleasant outlook on to lovely gardens.
Green Gables' Extended Family Approach
One of the misconceptions about aged care is that residents live isolated lives away from their loved ones and stuck in a place out of sight of the community.
At Green Gables the reality is very different.
We are proud to engage families and friends in all aspects of our day-to-day life at the facility.
Here are just a few examples:
- Sons and daughters joining their parents for Sunday lunch in the dining room
- Visitors coming in to have a coffee in "Eelco's Lounge" (Eelco is a well-known local identity)
- Volunteers taking residents shopping or playing the piano
Our staff work with the residents, encouraging independence and dignity at all times.
The single most important difference is that we give our residents choices, and we will always endeavour to say "yes" to ideas or requests, even if they seem difficult at the time.
This approach has helped us to arrange a trip to Crete for a 93 year old resident who can't wait to get on the plane.
